Blue Bullet Surat Nahin Sweekare Haar
Surat fights gangrape with song
Yagnesh Mehta / TNN
.
Surat : Call it art for life’s sake. If concerned citizens came up with a music album exhorting flood-ravaged ‘Surtis to bounce back year ago, city-based artists have now come together to give voice to the anguish of the people over the gangrape of a minor in a moving car on June 12.
.
A group of poets and musicians have written and composed a song, ‘ Surat Nahin Sweekare Haar’ ( Surat can never accept defeat ) lauding the courage of the victim and her family in helping the police nail the accused.
While CSs of the song will be distributed, a music video on the issue featuring prominent citizens too is being planned.
.
ANGER IN VERSE
 –
Sidhe sidho vaar thayo,
haiye atyachaar thayo.
Dikri na aansu chodhaar,
Surat nahi sweekare haar.
.
Penned by poet Gaurang Thakar, the song exhorts citizens to fight against such heinous crimes. ‘ Naradhamo ne shiksha thaay, masoom bala maange nyaay, phaansi dai do Chowk Bazaar, Surat nahin sweekare haar ‘ (Punish the culprits, the victim is pleading for justice, hang them at chowk bazaar, Surat can never be defeated). The song urges government to take stern action against rapists and demands that they be hanged on the city’s busiest cross-roads, Chowk Bazaar.
.
“I have tried to give voice to feelings of Surtis. While law will take its own course, people should come forward to stop such incidents in future,” says Thakar. “Like all Surtis, we too salute the victim and her father for showing courage by lodging a complaint,” says Thakar, who dedicated the song to the family on Father’s Day.
.
Shaunak Pandya, who composed the song, says, “We decided to use drums and trumpets expressing anger in minds of people over the crime.” The duo has already roped in some well-known faces of the city for the music-video.
