ABOUT COLLEGE

Surat Municipal Institute of Medical education & research was established by Surat Municipal Corporation in the Year 2000-2001. The Institute is located in a campus measuring about 25 acres of land at Umarwada, opposite Bombay Market, in the heart of city.

The institute is affiliated to Veer Narmad South Gujarat University and is recognized by the Medical Council of India. 100 students are admitted every year for a five & half year course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.). The Institute also conducts Postgraduate Degree courses (M.D/M.S) in General Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Community Medicine, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Anesthesiology and Obstetrics & Gynecology. For the year 2009-10 the Medical Council of India and Government of India have given the permission to admit 150 students subject to yearly renewal for these additional 50 seats every year as per MCI norms.

The College has state of the art research and development facilities, Library, Hostel and other infrastructure support systems. The museum attached to the college’s departments particularly of Anatomy, forensic Medicine & toxicology, Preventive & social Medicine are among the best in the country.
